You can now set up trusted friends or family members as recovery contacts for your Google Account. If you ever get locked out—like forgetting your password or losing your device—you can ask one of these recovery contacts to help verify your identity.

When you reach out to them, you’ll send them a special verification code. They’ll receive a notification or email and, by confirming that code, they help you securely regain access to your account.

Importantly, your recovery contacts can vouch for your identity but never actually access your account or personal information. This adds an extra layer of dependable recovery, especially if you don’t have access to your usual device or phone number, making account recovery less stressful and more secure.
